Rules for Multiplying, 0′s, 1′s, 2′s

by Megan Resig on October 18, 2010

I must confess, math has never been a particularly strong subject for me. Luckily, I had some very good teachers who found creative ways to approach difficult material.

Since I currently provide services to several local school districts, I get asked to create songs that tie into academic material quite frequently. The most recent request was for a musical experience that focused on the multiplication rules for 0′s, 1′s, and 2′s.

This song is loosely based on the song “You’re the One that I Want” from the movie “Grease”. I’m a huge fan of parody songs!

Rules for Multiplyin’ 0, 1, 2

(Chorus)

There are rules for multiplyin’

the numbers 0, 1 and 2

Oh there’s no use in cryin’

it’s easy to do!

Zero times any number is zero

Zero times any number is zero

Zero times any number is zero

Oh don’t you see,

It’s easy!

(Chorus)

1 times any number, that number stays the same

1 times any number, oh that number stays the same

1 times any number, oh that number stays the same

Oh don’t you see,

It’s easy

(Chorus)

2 times any number, you add that number to itself

2 times any number, you add that number to itself

2 times any number, you add that number to itself

Oh don’t you see,

It’s easy!
